After outpacing both corporate bonds and Treasury issues in February, municipals posted poor price performance in March. Overall, munis outperformed Treasuries by 19 basis points (bps) in the 2-year sector, while underperforming by 10 bps in the 30-year sector. There is little correlation currently between municipals and Treasuries. Municipals saw no corresponding price movement at mid-month when Treasuries experienced a flight-to-quality rally amid the natural disasters in Japan.
