Residential real estate is struggling, demand for new homes is extremely weak and foreclosures remain high. According to data released Tuesday August 16th
from the Commerce Department housing starts fell 1.5 percent to a 604,000 annual rate from June’s 613,000 starts. Building permits also dropped. Unemployment remains stubborn over 9 % pushing back expectations for a rebound in homebuilding. Tighter mortgage lending rules was one reason the Fed said it would hold borrowing costs at a record low until at least mid-2013. Money Supply is elevated however investors are nervous and lack confidence.
